Kumawu by-election: Refrain from activities that may cause mayhem – Peace Council

  The National Peace Council in the Ashanti Region has called on the two major parties New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress to refrain from activities that may cause mayhem in today’s by-election at Kumawu in the Ashanti region. The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Peace Council Rt. Rev. Nuh Ben Abubekr advised the two main political parties to ensure that they comport themselves. “We want peace, no one liked what happened at Ayawaso Wuogon constituency during the by-election. We don’t want it to be repeated here. Parliament has also enacted a law, the police chief Dampare George Akuffo has also met the two main political parties. We expect them to follow the law and follow the road map they themselves have set up. Govt unjustifiably collapsed some banks due to ‘personal agenda’ – Mahama

  Former President John Dramani Mahama has provided details of his decision to restore the licenses of some indigenous banks that were collapsed in 2019 if elected in the 2024 general elections. Mr. Mahama announced these plans during his acceptance speech as the NDC flagbearer in Tamale last week. Speaking at the CEOs Summit in Accra on May 22, Mr. Mahama expressed that some banks were unjustifiably collapsed due to personal vendettas against major shareholders in the financial sector. “Definitely l gave you an example, I said one bank was shut down because there was criminal prosecution against its major shareholder. Volta Region: ECG implements cashless system, turns away customers with cash

  The Volta Regional office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has started turning away customers who try to pay with cash at various service center's. This change comes as a result of a nationwide directive to implement a cashless system in all ECG offices throughout the country. Although some customers may need time to adjust, they are optimistic that this new method will eventually provide a more convenient way of purchasing power. After almost two years of piloting, the cashless system is fully being implemented, resulting in the cessation of cash payments at all 300 ECG offices nationwide.  Samuel Dubik Mahama, the Managing Director of ECG, stated that this move aims to enhance the efficiency of the power distribution company’s revenue collection efforts. The company has been conducting extensive training programs for customers who are unfamiliar with the new policy.   In 2007, the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi called for establishment of the United States of Africa . He called for the unification of all African armies into a single force, arguing that this would give the continent unprecedented power and prevent it from being a target for colonizers. In a speech he uttered that, "If we manage to unify all of Africa's armies in a single army, Africa will have such power. We must be strong so as not to be an easy prey for the colonizers." GHANA TRADE FAIR CENTRE REDEVELOPMENT WILL BE STARTED IN 2024

  The Trade Fair Centre Redevelopment in Accra is a $2 billion project which will turn the old Centre into a modern trade exhibition site, including the development of a 12,000 seater trade convention center , modern hotels, retail shops, among others. The Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Stellar Holding Pte. Ltd, a company registered under the laws of Singapore, to establish a joint venture company for the financing and redevelopment of the Trade Fair site. The agreement should see an estimated investment of $1 billion, sourced by the Singaporean company for the development of 65 acres of the total 140 acre (566,559 square meters) Phase 1 under the MoU will focus on developing the Convention Centre and Exhibition Centre Halls to hold the World Economic Forum ,Africa.
